Janet Desmond ( Kubica), 83, of Charlton NY passed away peacefully in Bedford NH on January 25, 2022. Notably, she passed away on her late husband's birthday surrounded by her loving family. She had moved to NH in August 2021 to be closer to her daughter, son in law and grandchildren.
Janet, daughter of the late Julia Slabec and John Kubica was born and raised in the village of Little Falls, NY. It was there that she met and fell in love with her beloved husband John Desmond. They were married in 1962 and moved to Scotia, NY to start a family. They had two children, Erin and John.
Janet worked alongside John at his family law practice as a paralegal for many years. Janet shared a dream with her husband when they purchased and old farmhouse and lovingly restored it to its historical grandeur. It was there they cherished many family memories. They treasured antiques, gardens and animals of which they had many. They enjoyed family gatherings at their summer home on Sacandaga Lake. Most importantly they shared a deep love for their children and grandchildren.
Later in life, Janet became a realtor. She also was dedicated to caring for the elderly. Her sense of humor and fondness of storytelling and conversation helped make her perfectly suited for this role. Janet demonstrated her devotion for her family by joyfully preparing for their visits by making all their favorite food and treats and planning fun activities! She would faithfully travel to visit her grandchildren and support them in all their interests and accomplishments. Above all she was so proud of them.
As a conscientious member of the Charlton community Janet enjoyed the camaraderie of the charlton seniors and the garden club. She loved attending church suppers, cookie swaps, concerts and just sharing conversation with her friends. Whatever event she attended you could be sure she would bring delicious homemade treats to share. She and her family were so grateful for the kindness and generosity of her dear friends and neighbors, especially during the challenges of the last two years.
In addition to her parents and husband Janet was preceded in death by her beloved son John Desmond. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted family, her daughter Erin Witherell and her husband Don of Londonderry NH, her grandson Patrick Witherell and his wife Sarah of Manchester NH and her granddaughter Brittany Witherell of Boston MA.
Janet was so many things: a nurturing mother, a loving grandmother, a loyal friend, a wonderful cook, a fantastic Baker, a master gardener and an avid reader. She was a super Red Sox fan much to the dismay of her daughter and the delight of her grandchildren.
Throughout her life she faced many challenges with strength and determination. Late in life she was incredibly courageous while enduring many health difficulties. She maintained her compassionate and witty personality even through her final days.
Janet's indomitable spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A service to celebrate her life will be held in the spring. Donations in Janet's name can be made to The Animal Protective Foundation in Glenville, NY.
