John (Jay) Joseph Ciccotelli passed after a brief fight against his final sudden medical episode shortly after midnight on October 19, 2024 at St Joseph Hospital, Nashua, NH.
The second of six children, he was born on Christmas Day in 1959 to Anthony & Concetta (Savarise) Ciccotelli spending his early years in Watertown before moving to Billerica where he lived for most of his life before moving to Pepperell.
He is predeceased by his parents, older brother Anthony and younger brother Donald. Jay leaves behind his younger brother, Bobby, sisters Paula Minchello (Robert Minchello) and Linda Downie (Keith Downie), and nephews Stephen Doak, Mathew Doak and Robert Ciccotelli. He also remained close to his stepdaughter Paula (Roussell) DeLosh and her family.
In 2003 Pepperell became his home when he moved in with the love of his life and became a father figure to her two children, helping to raise them to be strong, independent adults. In this he is survived by his life partner, Kristin (Carter) Smith, daughter Kierie Smith (partner Andrew Tavarez), son Patrick Smith (Megan Smith) and granddaughter, Adelaide Smith.
Earlier in his work career he worked for Polaroid, Princeton Properties and even had a partnership in his own window installation company. He also spent time as a diesel mechanic at Lowell Fleet Maintenance as a second job after his move to Pepperell. Jay first came to Pepperell on March 31, 1997 when he began working for Nissitissit Group Ltd as the maintenance supervisor until his retirement due to health issues, although he never sat still, and no one is quite sure if he ever technically retired as he was always on hand to answer questions or help when needed.
He never watched movies, but Jay loved everything “older” Disney and had been a frequent flier to Disney World, visiting many times over the years with his families with his last trip in October 2015. He was a fish enthusiast with many tanks on and off over the years, and even bred angel fish at one time. He was a big fan of the Patriots, Red Sox and Bruins with football on the TV every Sunday and WAAF and then the WEEI Greg Hill sports radio show playing every weekday morning. If the radio was not on, the TV was.
He was a jack of all trades and a master of everything that required common sense. He was the “shirt off your back” guy and it was well-known that if you needed help and called or sent him a text, he would most likely show up at your door as a response. Back in the day he fixed & built computers, for many years he fixed cars, recently he and his buddy Frankie bought and sold lawn mowers with Frankie doing body work and Jay fixing motors and mechanics.
His sense of humor, love of any joke, need to ‘fix it’ or make sure you were all set, and his absolutely uncanny ability to find and see the most common-sense solution to any problem or situation were the defining aspects of his personality that will make him sorely missed by all of those who loved him.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00am at the Pepperell Community Center, 4 Hollis Street, Pepperell, MA 01463 with a gathering afterwards at 1:30pm at the Dam Grille, 142 Main Street, Pepperell, MA 01463 to share food, more memories and laughter.
